The MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro 027US combines VR-ready graphics, blistering transfer speeds and a gorgeous gaming-optimized display in a 15-inch chassis.
MSI made the bold claim that this generation of 10-series notebooks could out-perform a desktop PC. So let’s see how great it really is, which can also be classified as a desktop replacement thanks to its generous features and the powerful hardware.
Good Design
Though a beast on the inside, the surface of the MSI GT62VR is a different story. Wrapped in a mostly plastic shell, the GT62VR’s display feels fragile and flimsy while the rest of the system is excruciatingly bottom-heavy.
Even though the body is mostly made of plastic, MSI has done quite a bit to give this pricey device a more premium feeling: the back panel of the display and the material around the keyboard are made of metal.
Keyboard is fantastic!
Aside from being a bit of a showoff aesthetically, the keyboard on the MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro is a joy to use. Though it doesn’t take advantage of a full-size mechanical keyboard like the MSI GT80 Titan and Acer Predator 21 X does, and we’re thankful for it (and your local coffee shop probably is too).
The keyboard on the GT62VR manages to impress with a perfectly-spaced arrangement of characters and function keys that are surprisingly quiet. In fact, it’s quieter than Apple’s Magic Keyboard while being more tactile than a Razer Turret.
Speakers
The 2.1 system is provided by Dynaudio and creates a pretty good sound in combination with the Nahimic Sound Enhancer. MSI uses two speakers and one subwoofer located at the front or the bottom of the GT62VR, respectively. Thanks to the subwoofer, the 15-inch notebook creates comparatively rich bass. The maximum volume is also usable and sufficient for small up to medium-sized rooms.
Based on my experiences, you do not need external speakers or a headset – contrary to many other notebooks. Games, videos and music sound decent enough.
